The multi-layered guitar-based music of Byla, with Jarboe and her sound, makes for an album that is dark, straightforward and paradoxically driven by complexity.
Kevin and Colin of Byla were looking for a cover design that would reflect ideas about symmetry; my reference material was geometric patterns from mathematics journals.
The image is a distillation/distortion of a complex arabesque after processing through vector drawing programs. The typeface is Corporate A (serif), chosen for its elegance and modernity. It’s hard to go wrong with red type here.
